Kayla.

jason_lee24.jpg  jason_lee23.jpg

兩個都愛玩 iphones/ipads。

jason_lee27.jpg  jason_lee22.jpg

jason_lee2.jpg  jason_lee26.jpg

jason_lee3.jpg  jason_lee32.jpg

http://kristinandkayla.blogspot.com/2011/08/class-of-2024.html

一些關於燈光的資訊,我建議參考這裡:strobist.com

jason_lee211.jpg  jason_lee28.jpg

Jason:

jason_lee210.jpg  jason_lee29.jpg

jason_lee4.jpg

jason_lee2.jpg

jason_lee3.jpg

LPM:覺得攝影是__________.

Jason:

Interview in English

LPM: Please tell us a few things about yourself and the city you live in.

Jason: Hmm, a few things about myself….

I am a 35 year old father of 2 awesome kids, and a husband to my wife of 9 years.

I love taking photos, apple products, and most things technology related.

I think you can tell a lot about a person by looking at their RSS feeds.

From my google reader account, you'd find that I enjoy many aspects of photography,

mainly wedding, editorial, fashion, and lighting stuff.

I also have cooking, auto blogs, advertising, and design sites.

I currently reside in San Ramon CA, about 45 minutes east of San Francisco.

I grew up in San Francisco and moved around a bit, before settling down in San Ramon.

LPM: When did you start taking pictures? Do you have any photography or art background?

Jason: I actively started taking photos about 9 years ago.

I still remember my first digital camera, a Sony f717.

I don't have a background in photography or art, but I do remember drawing a lot when I was younger.

LPM: What camera and lenses do you use? Which lens is your favorite, and why?

Jason: I currently use the Nikon system, but for 7 or 8 years I have been shooting with Canon.

Here is my current list of cameras and lenses:

D700
14-24 2.8
24-70 2.8
70-200 2.8
24 1.4
35 1.4
50 1.4
85 1.4
45 PCE

I can't say I have a favorite lens, since each application is unique,

but if I had to choose one lens to use all day, it would be the 35mm.

LPM: Do you edit all of your photos? And what software do you use?

Jason: Yes, everything that is posted/printed is edited in Adobe Lightroom, and finished in Photoshop.

LPM: Please tell us a few things about your two cute daughters, Kristine and Kayla.

Jason: Wow, this is a tough one. I'll try to keep it current since they change so often.

They both like eating seaweed. Kristin likes to sleep in, while Kayla likes to wake up early.

Kristin like salty snacks, and Kayla likes sweets. They both love Mochi ice cream.

Kristin is very mannerly, while Kayla is a wild child. Both love playing with iphones/ipads.

They both dislike homework.

Kristin takes her sweet time to finish it, while Kayla tries to rush through it and finish as quickly as possible.

LPM: How do you come up with such creative photos of your daughters? Where do you get your inspiration?

Jason: I get my inspiration mostly from them.

They are always doing or saying crazy things, and I try to write down these ideas for photos later.

LPM: What's your creative process?  Do you have an idea first and then take pictures of girls?

Or do you find existing photos of them and play magic on them?

Jason: I always think of an idea first, then plan it out. Sometimes the ideas don't work out as planned.

After coming up with the idea, I decide what props to use, and how I want to light the photo.

I set everything up (which can take anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour) and have the girls take a few photos.

LPM: Some photos look like they require a lot of props. Do you also buy costumes, create props, design the set?

Jason: I do buy props sometimes, but most of the stuff is just laying around the house. As for a set, I just shoot around the house.

LPM: In many photos of Kristine and Kayla, they smile and seem to enjoy the photo shoot a lot.

How do you make that happen?

Jason: I try and set up all my equipment prior to taking any pictures.

That way, I only take a minute or 2, and I always reward them.

LPM: Do they like being photographed? What do they think of your photos? (Do they give you a critique? :)

Jason: I think they enjoy the rewards, but they always are enthusiastic about the process and end result.

I don't get critiques from them, but they are always giving me suggestions and ideas for photos.

LPM: Your photos always have really good lighting. Do you use flash?

Could you share with us how to get good lighting (either using natural light or equipment)?

Jason: I would say in 99% of the photos I use flash, but light is light.

One of my favorite sets of photos were taken without using flash: http://kristinandkayla.blogspot.com/2011/08/class-of-2024.html

I am always looking for light, but if I can't find it, I will create my own light.

In a more controlled environment, my preference is to always use flash.

For some great lighting info, I would recommend checking out strobist.com

LPM: What is a typical day like for you? And what's the most fun thing you enjoy doing with two girls?

Jason: I don't know if I ever have a 'typical' day. With kids, things are constantly changing.

I always enjoy going on little outings with the kids. Just a simple trip to San Francisco, or a leisurely hike is always fun.

LPM: Besides your family, do you have other subjects you enjoy taking pictures of?

Jason: Happy couples. I know that sounds cheesy, but I really like capturing people in love, smiling, and just being happy.

LPM: Do you have your camera with you wherever you go?

Jason: Not always. I'd say only on planned outings do I bring a camera.

LPM: Are there particular photographers whose work inspires you?

Jason: There are so many fantastic photographers out there, I wouldn't know where to begin.

As I mentioned, I really enjoy so many different types if photography,

but I would have to say my favorites are advertising, and photojournalism.

LPM: How did you become a professional photographer? And what was your first case?

Jason: I'll have to dig up my official 'first' business license, but I think it was in 2003?

My first paid experience was a wedding as an associate for another photographer.

LPM: How did you get into wedding photography? And what do you love most about wedding photography?

Jason: I started out assisting a few photographers in my area,

and did some contract work for a wedding company before going out on my own.

I love how dynamic a wedding can be, and how no two weddings are the same.

I love seeing people in love. I love being a part of the biggest celebration of someones lives.

LPM: Please pick three favorite photos and tell us why they are your favorites.

Jason: Wow, this is a REALLY tough one. That's like me asking my kids which chocolate is their favorite lol.

1. This is kind of obvious why : )

My kids don't let me kiss them anymore because of my mustache stubble, so I really cherish this picture.

2. I really like this one because of the expression Kayla has.

3. I recall this image vividly, as the kids sat down and watched their first sunset.

Such a simple photo, no lights, no props, just the two girls and a sunset.

LPM: Could you share some tips for taking pictures of kids with our mom/dad readers?

Jason: Have fun with your kids. To capture a genuine smile, they really have to be happy.

Rather than tell your kids to smile for the camera, have them interact with you.

Tell them a joke. Have them tell you a joke. Act silly.

Look for nice light. To me, nice light can be many different things. Experiment and see what you like.

Most importantly, have FUN.

LPM: Please fill in the blank. Photography for you is ____________.

Jason: the most awesome thing ever : )
